AulaNet
AulaNet is an LMS (Learning Management System) that has an efficient
teaching platform. The tool was developed at the Engineering Software Lab -
LES of the Information Systems department of PUC-Rio, in 1997.
EduWeb is the exclusive distributor and representative for the software. Its
distribution is performed for free by the company through download or
acquisition of a CD-Rom. With an installed base of more than 4,100 AulaNet's
in Brazil and Abroad, the software already has English and Spanish versions.
The course creation and maintenance systems supported by Internet technology can be
used both for professional distance learning and training complementation presence
education activities. Teachers and students of universities in Brazil and Abroad
used AulaNet, as well as companies and government agencies interested in
modernizing, speeding up and making cheaper their employees' training.
AulaNet is based on the following assumptions: the created courses must have a
great interactivity capacity, in order to attract the intense participation of
the student in the learning process (learning ware); the course's author does
not necessarily be an Internet expert, AulaNet is a user friendly tool; the
resources offered for the creation of courses must correspond to the ones of
a conventional classroom, added of others usually available on the Web
environment; the reutilization of already existing contents in digital media
should be possible, through, for example, importing market standard software
files (ex. Word, PowerPoint, Real).
The tool adds to the offered courses the following services: Communication
(interest group, discussion group, contact with the Teacher and debate),
evaluation (test, project, exercise and results), learning materials (syllabus,
slides, recorded layout, class text, text book, presentations, Bibliography)
and general functionalities (tutorial on the Internet, students' home-page
and search).
Therefore, if compared to a traditional school, you can say that AulaNet
would be the teacher's and student's (virtual) class itself. Therefore, the
administrator that takes care of the most operational part would be the "schools'
registrar". Extremely interactive, the software offers the resources that most
stirs the students' interest. I.E., the entertaining is offered through
multimedia resources (slides, sound, movie and text). The freedom to enroll
the classes at any time and place also represents a great convenience to the
user.
